This audiocast features Terrie Black, Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Massachusetts Amherst College of Nursing. She is also the Chairperson for the American Heart Association’s Stroke Nursing Committee and a member of the State of the Science Stroke Nursing Symposium Planning Committee.

Adequate rehab planning includes a plan that recognizes and treats all areas of impairment. This audiocast takes a deep dive into assessments. What types? When should assessment take place? Black will also look at rehab planning, activities of daily living and the components of an effective evaluation. An accurate and comprehensive assessment to thoroughly address the needs of the patient is critical for a successful recovery.

Terrie M. Black

Terrie M. Black is Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Massachusetts – Amherst and Nurse Reviewer for The Joint Commission.  She is past President of the Association of Rehabilitation Nurses (ARN) and former Chairperson for ARN’s Health Policy Committee. She is currently Editorial Board member for the Rehabilitation Nursing journal and is liaison to the National Quality Forum for ARN. She is the recipient of several prestigious awards from ARN including the Distinguished Service Award and Presidents Award.

Dr. Black is a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing as well as Fellow in the American Heart Association (AHA) where she is Chairperson for the Stroke Nursing Committee and the State of the Science Stroke Nursing Symposium Planning Committee. Dr. Black is a Merit Reviewer for the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI), serves as a PCORI Ambassador and is a member for PCORI’s Healthcare Delivery and Disparities Research Advisory Panel.

Dr. Black has written numerous articles, several book chapters and has presented nationally and internationally. She is a member of the Association of Rehabilitation Nurses, Sigma Theta Tau Nursing Honor Society, American Nurses Association and the American Heart/Stroke Association.
